He took the Mona Lisa of photography, the image of the startled young Afghan Girl who graced the cover of National Geographic. Stark and exposed, the picture struck a chord of guilt worldwide when it was published. McCurry famously tracked the girl down years later and found a mother of children who didn't want her image disseminated. What a great book possibility! I went with David Snider to interview and shoot McCurry for his iPad app, and got off this shot on the day he'd flown back from shooting the Pirelli tire calendar in Rio. He was exhausted, but animated for the iPad interview, and I wanted to catch him only partly exposed, as befits an intensely private person. He wasn't expecting much, and posed quickly, wondering what I was thinking.

The Pin-Up model worked on three projects of Blue's that took years off her life, she jokes. An amazing face, and a graceful human being, fearless and committed. Like all good models, she loves being told to crawl through the mud to get the perfect picture or take. Rob plays sitar famously on Thievery's smash hit "Lebanese Blonde." He was shot here by Blue for DC SetList, but he and Blue have been acquaintances for a long time: he designed Blue's "Fuck Hollywood" advertisement in the City Paper for Blue's movie "Uncle Paddy's Wake." Rob is a world-class guitarist in several other musical projects.

Graphic designer, stenciler, illustrator, movie-maker and painter Jyl Freeman has shuttled between DC and LAX working her skills for politicos and fashion shops. She has a rare sensibility as somebody equally comfortable working at Guess or for a political campaign during election season.
