Ice Rose
There are rules for the lines in nature. Fire and leaves look remarkably similar in many ways, and physicists and poets have often drawn attention to nature's constructs when these parallel forms are noticed. In two different shoots I began to think I was seeing an odd similarity between the curl of petals and he freezing of water drops. The petals were on roses in Portland, Oregon, shrinking before winter. The water drops were beneath iced-over rivers in the north of Iceland in the middle of darkest winter. And the more I saw the images, linked them together, the stronger the curl of petal and drop appeared.
This collection of pictures would become the basis of a show at the Barnes & Noble in Reston, Virginia. The show is called "ICE ROSE: An Exhibition of Mother Nature's Jewelry." THIS SHOW HAS BEEN EXTENDED THROUGH MAY. Click for directions.
